Osagyefo Roundabout Unveiled at Krisan, Ellembelle to Honour Dr. Kwame Nkrumah
The road to Nkroful now bears a powerful new symbol of Ghana’s history. The newly constructed Osagyefo Roundabout at Krisan in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region was grandly unveiled and commissioned on Friday in honour of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President and Africa’s man of the millennium.

The commissioning formed part of activities marking NkrumahFest 2026, the annual festival held to commemorate the 117th birthday anniversary of Dr. Nkrumah. The festival, which began on September 16 and will climax on September 21, is led by the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah.

The unveiling ceremony drew a distinguished gathering of Pan-Africanists, traditional leaders, political stalwarts and family of the late founder.

Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, who commissioned the project, described the roundabout as more than infrastructure — but a statement of identity for the Nzema land that birthed Ghana’s independence struggle. The strategic Krisan junction, which serves as the gateway to Nkroful, Nkrumah’s hometown, will now welcome all visitors with the imposing image and legacy of Osagyefo.

Delivering a stirring solidarity message was renowned Kenyan Pan-Africanist and keynote speaker for this year’s NkrumahFest durbar, Prof. P. L. O. Lumumba, who is in Ellembelle for the grand durbar of the ‘Journey to Nkroful’ celebration. Prof. Lumumba lauded the Ellembelle MP for keeping Nkrumah’s flame alive and charged the youth of Africa to return to Nkrumah’s ideals of unity, self-reliance and incorruptible leadership.
Also present were:
• Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
• Awulae Blay IX, Chief of Krisan and host of the landmark
• Samia Yaba Nkrumah, daughter of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and former Chairperson of the CPP
• Bernard Mornah, Pan-Africanist and leading political figure
• Joseph Agyekum, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ellembelle, and other dignitaries, traditional leaders, and thousands of residents.

In his address, Awulae Blay IX commended Hon. Buah and the Ellembelle District Assembly for siting the monument at Krisan, noting that it restores historical dignity to the area and will boost tourism along the Ellembelle corridor.
For Samia Yaba Nkrumah, the moment was deeply emotional. She thanked the people of Ellembelle for continuously honouring her father’s legacy not just in words, but in lasting monuments that inspire future generations.

The Osagyefo Roundabout is artistically designed with Pan-African colours, inscriptions of Nkrumah’s famous quotes, and a towering bust of the Osagyefo at its centre, illuminated to be visible day and night.

Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah noted that the project is part of a broader agenda to position Ellembelle as the home of heritage tourism in Ghana, linking Nkroful, Fort San Antonio in Axim, and the Ankasa Forest.
The commissioning ended with cultural displays, pouring of libation, and chants of “Forward Ever, Backward Never” as the people of Ellembelle reaffirmed their pride as custodians of Nkrumah’s birthplace.
