32-Year-Old Okada Rider Dragged to Court Over Alleged Cutlass Attack on Retired Police Officer, Two Others
A 32-year-old okada rider has been charged with carrying a cutlass during a violent incident over family land, which resulted in significant injuries to a retired police officer and two others. The accused, named Zordzi Kwame and hailing from Akrade, appeared before the Odumase Krobo Circuit Court on Monday, September 7, 2026.
The proceedings were overseen by His Honour, Kwesi Appiatse Abaidoo, who listened to the details of the case involving an alleged mob attack by around 30 individuals against the victims at Belekorpe, close to Kpong, on August 26, 2026.
According to the police report, retired officer Emmanuel Baah Donkor, 60, along with about 15 family members, had visited their family land in Belekorpe around 10:40am to tend to the area in preparation for maize planting. The prosecution claims that while they were working, a man named Mawuli Dunyo confronted them, demanding they stop and vacate the land, asserting it belonged to his father.
Dunyo allegedly threatened that there would be bloodshed if the group failed to leave before making several phone calls.
Police said that within minutes, a mob numbering about 30 arrived at the scene, with some members allegedly armed with cutlasses, spears and clubs.
The mob allegedly attacked Donkor and two other victims, Laud Emmanuel Djabanor and Philip Akortey, forcing them to flee towards the roadside opposite Steve Hills International School.
In the course of the escape, Akortey reportedly fell, and Kwame allegedly slashed him with a cutlass, causing an injury to his left wrist.
The prosecution further alleges that the attackers pursued the victims to the roadside and continued assaulting them with various weapons.
Donkor and Djabanor allegedly sustained cutlass wounds to various parts of their bodies, including their heads, wrists and thumb.
The three victims were subsequently rescued by personnel from the Kpong Police Station and taken to the Ayikpala Health Centre for treatment.
Akortey was later referred to St Martins De Porres Hospital at Agormanya for further treatment, while Donkor and Djabanor also continued their treatment at the hospital.
Police said medical forms were issued to the victims and duly endorsed.
Suspect allegedly arrested after chase
The court further heard that shortly after the alleged attack, Kwame was seen fleeing the scene on a tricycle ridden by Amos Amadzake, also known as Ability.
Three witnesses, Kwao Abraham, Terkpor Tei and Narh Richard, allegedly spotted him at the Kpong Water Works and raised an alarm.
They reportedly pursued the tricycle to the Alinco fuel station, where they apprehended Kwame and the tricycle rider and took them to the Kpong Police Station.
During investigations, Akortey allegedly identified Kwame as the person who slashed him with a cutlass.
Police investigations also implicated Mawuli Dunyo and two other persons, who are currently at large, in the alleged attacks on Donkor and Djabanor.
The police have commenced efforts to arrest the remaining suspects.
Kwame has been charged and arraigned before the Odumase Krobo Circuit Court.
The case has been adjourned to Monday, September 14, 2026, for further proceedings.
