TRAFFITECH-GH: Full Enforcement Starts October 1 – What You Need To Know

The era of warnings is over. The government has announced that TRAFFITECH-GH cameras will begin full enforcement from 1st October 2026.

 

One penalty unit is GH₵12, and motorists, riders and even pedestrians should take note. Camera-generated notices will be issued to the registered owner of the vehicle.

Here is a breakdown of offences, fines and possible jail terms:

 

Major Driving Offences

1. Using a phone while driving: Up to GH₵600 and up to 3 months imprisonment.

2. Drink/drug driving: GH₵600 – GH₵2,400 and up to 40 months imprisonment.

3. Jumping a red light: GH₵120 – GH₵360 and up to 30 days imprisonment.

4. Street/drag racing or speeding: GH₵120 – GH₵300 and up to 30 days imprisonment.

 

 

Other Road Use Offences

5. Parking in a disability bay: Up to GH₵300; up to 8 months imprisonment.

6. Operating a TV monitor while driving: Up to GH₵300; up to 30 days imprisonment.

7. Unauthorised Okada/Aboboyaa operation – Operator: GH₵600–GH₵1,200 (up to 24 months), Rider: GH₵300–GH₵600 (up to 8 months).

8. Overcharging passengers: GH₵120–GH₵300; up to 30 days imprisonment.

9. Boarding or alighting at an unauthorised location: Up to GH₵60; up to 7 days imprisonment.

10. Jaywalking or refusing to use a footbridge: GH₵60; up to 7 days imprisonment.

11. Preaching or hawking in a moving trotro/bus: GH₵120–GH₵600; up to 8 months imprisonment.

12. Selling goods on roads or walkways: Up to GH₵600; up to 3 months imprisonment.

13. Washing or repairing vehicles on the road: Up to GH₵300; up to 30 days imprisonment.

 

How The Camera Penalties Work

• 1st – 3rd offence: GH₵120 each

• 4th offence: GH₵180

• 5th offence: GH₵240

• 6th offence within 24 months: Court action and suspension or revocation of your driving licence for at least 12 months, plus retraining and retesting.
