Pete Edochie Pays Courtesy Call On GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi During Ghana Legacy Project Visit
Veteran Nigerian actor, Chief Pete Edochie, paid a courtesy call on the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi Esq., during his ongoing visit to Ghana for the launch of the African Legacy Project.
The 79-year-old screen legend, revered across Africa for his iconic role as Okonkwo in Things Fall Apart and decades of stellar Nollywood performances, is in Ghana for a week-long celebration of his life and career.

Dressed in his signature red cap and white kaftan, with a Ghanaian kente stole draped around his neck, Chief Pete Edochie was warmly received at the GoldBod offices by Sammy Gyamfi.

Photos from the courtesy call show the two sharing a warm handshake and deep conversation; a symbolic meeting between one of Africa’s greatest cultural icons and the head of Ghana’s strategic gold body.
While the details of their discussion were private, sources say it centered on culture, leadership, and the role of gold as both an economic asset and a symbol of African royalty; a theme that fits perfectly with Edochie’s title as the “Lion That Needs Not To Roar.”

The initiative, themed “Celebrating the African Legend: The Lion That Needs Not to Roar,” seeks to preserve his wisdom, life experiences, and over 50-year body of work while inspiring younger generations of African filmmakers.
Since arriving in Ghana on September 29th, the veteran has had a packed schedule:
• He was honoured at a star-studded gala alongside Ghanaian legends Grace Omaboe (Maame Dokono) and Fred Amugi
• He visited his ailing Ghanaian friend, actor Emmanuel Armah, and offered support
• He paid glowing tribute to the late Daddy Lumba, recalling how he was the hottest star in Ghana when he visited in 1999
• He spoke about visiting the grave of his late friend, former President JJ Rawlings
• He made a passionate appeal to President John Mahama to invest in and revive Ghana’s fading movie industry
At the gala, actress Jackie Appiah and entrepreneur Maame Gold each donated GH¢20,000 towards the project, while Caveman Watches honoured him with a custom timepiece bearing his image.
For Pete Edochie, who revealed during the visit that “walking is a problem for me now” and that he battles swelling in his body, his trip to Ghana is a powerful statement of love for the country he says always delights him.
