New Golden Statue of Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka Sparks Debate on Social Media
A towering golden statue of the late Apostle Professor Emeritus Kwadwo Safo Kantanka has become the talk of Ghanaian social media after it was unveiled at his burial site in Gomoa Mpota.

The statue, which stands in front of the white-columned Apostle Kwadwo Safo Centre, shows the founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission in his iconic kente cloth, with his right hand raised high in a wave and a broad smile on his face. Finished entirely in gold, it was mounted to mark the first anniversary of his passing. Apostle Safo died on September 11, 2025.

Family, members of the Kristo Asafo Mission, and sympathisers gathered at the site for the anniversary. The monument, according to those present, is meant to serve as a lasting reminder of his legacy as Ghana’s foremost industrialist, inventor, and preacher who championed made-in-Ghana vehicles and technology through the Kantanka Group of Companies.
But the unveiling has sparked more than remembrance. It has reignited conversation about a family rift.
Two Statues, One Anniversary
Social media users quickly noticed that two different statues have been unveiled within days of each other by separate camps within the family.

The golden full-body statue was unveiled by the team linked to his daughter, former MP Sarah Adwoa Safo, at his resting place.
Hours later, his son and successor as leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena Kantanka, also unveiled his own tribute – a large golden bust at a night ceremony held under white tents, where mourners dressed in white marked Remembrance Day. That bust, mounted on a tall pedestal at the museum, is being praised for its striking likeness.
The double unveiling comes after a well-publicized dispute between the siblings over funeral arrangements, burial site, and succession at the Mission. In July, a High Court placed a 10-day injunction on the funeral rites as the legal dispute played out.
