Seven Police Officers Interdicted Over Alleged Extortion

Seven Police Officers Interdicted Over Alleged Extortion

The Ghana Police Service has taken significant action by suspending seven of its personnel in response to a troubling allegation involving extortion within a patrol team located in Accra. This decision underscores the Service’s commitment to maintaining integrity and accountability among its ranks.

The officers facing this serious allegation include Inspector Courage Boateng, General Sergeant Stephen Addo, General Corporal Moses Anyravi, General Corporal Prosper Adiabo, General Lance Corporal Samuel Anolcye, General Constable Henrietta Coleman, and General Constable Bernard Amoako. Their actions, as reported, involved demanding money from a victim and coercing him to withdraw cash from an Automated Teller Machine (ATM). Such behavior is not only unethical but also undermines the trust placed in law enforcement by the public.

In a statement released on Wednesday, September 16, the Ghana Police Service made it clear that this interdiction serves a vital purpose. It allows the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) the necessary space to carry out a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the allegations. This step is crucial for ensuring that all facts are uncovered and that justice is served.

The Police Service has reassured the public that they take these allegations seriously and are committed to thorough scrutiny of the situation. As they navigate this investigation, it is emphasized that appropriate actions will be taken based on the findings, reflecting their determination to uphold the highest standards of conduct within the police force and to rebuild public trust in the law enforcement system.
