Minority in Parliament Calls for Immediate Dismissal of NSA Boss Yaw Ampofo Ankrah
The Minority in Parliament is demanding the immediate dismissal or suspension of the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, over alleged irregularities surrounding a visa facilitation arrangement linked to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to the caucus, the scheme allegedly generated about US`$600,000 and is currently under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.
Addressing journalists in Accra, the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, said Ampofo Ankrah and some NSA staff have been reporting to the CID for questioning over the arrangement.
The Minority alleges that a private entity, operating with support from the NSA, charged individuals seeking to travel to the 2026 World Cup, and to be hosted in the United States, Mexico and Canada as much as US$`8,000 per person for assistance with travel arrangements.

The caucus further claimed that promotional materials and banners for the service, including for an entity known as TRIBE Culture Fest / TRIBE FEST, were displayed at NSA offices and around the national stadium.
โThere were clear banners of the Tribe Culture Fest dealing with visa acquisitions on behalf of the National Sports Authority, supported by the National Sports Authority,โ the Minority said.

Assafuah said the Minority is concerned about who authorised the arrangement, who received the funds, what services were provided, and what happened to individuals who allegedly paid but did not receive the promised services.
The caucus stated it had submitted a petition to the Director-General of the CID to investigate claims that over `$600,000 was collected ostensibly on the say-so of the NSA.
The Minority says it is not prejudging the outcome of the investigation but argues that the NSA boss should not remain in office while the probe continues.
โWe therefore call on the President to dismiss the Director-General of the National Sports Authority with immediate effect, or, at the very least, require him to step aside pending the conclusion of the investigation,โ Assafuah said.

The call, he said, is intended to allow investigations to proceed without concerns about institutional influence.
The Minority has also raised separate questions about the travel of the driver and secretary of the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, to the United States for the World Cup, alleging the two have yet to return to Ghana.
