Carlos Queiroz Names Ghana Squad for 2027 AFCON Qualifiers

Carlos Queiroz has announced a 24-man squad for the Black Stars as they prepare for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, followed by a friendly match against Morocco.

Notably, Mohammed Kudus makes his return after missing the last international duty, and both Jan Gyamerah and Ronald Donkor are earning their first senior call-ups.

Gyamerah’s selection comes as a reward for his impressive performances at SV Elversberg, where he has been playing as a right-back. The 31-year-old played the entire match in Elversberg’s recent 2-1 loss to Bayern Munich on September 13.

On the other hand, Donkor has made a name for himself in the Black Stars setup after solidifying his position with the New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer. He scored the decisive goal in his team’s recent 1-0 victory over Columbus Crew on September 12.

Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, who represented Ghana at the 2026 World Cup, joins Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Joseph Anang in the squad.

In defense, Queiroz has called up Gideon Mensah, Baba Rahman, Gyamerah, Derrick Luckassen, Nathaniel Adjei, Jerome Opoku, Kojo Oppong Peprah, and Alexander Djiku.

The midfield lineup features Kwasi Sibo, Caleb Yirenkyi, Augustine Boakye, Ronald Donkor, and Ibrahim Sulemana. Meanwhile, the forward options include Christopher Bonsu Baah, Ernest Nuamah, Kudus, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Antoine Semenyo, Ibrahim Osman, Prince Adu Kwabena, and Jordan Ayew.

Ghana kicks off their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign against Côte d’Ivoire on September 24, then hosts The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium just three days later. The Black Stars will wrap up this stage with a friendly against Morocco at the Grand Stade de Tanger on October 4.

These matches will signal the beginning of Queiroz’s new tenure, following an agreement between the Ghana Football Association and the Portuguese coach to guide the Black Stars into this next phase.
