Brandon Thomas-Asante Gets Late Black Stars Call-Up
Coventry City striker Brandon Thomas-Asante has received a late call-up to join the Black Stars squad for the upcoming international matches in late September and early October.
Initially left out of Carlos Queiroz’s 24-man lineup, Thomas-Asante is stepping in due to adjustments made to the team ahead of Ghana’s fixtures. His inclusion comes on the heels of Prince Adu Kwabena’s unfortunate exclusion after he suffered a head injury during a match between Viktoria Plzen and Slavia Prague on September 20, 2026. Adu Kwabena, who had entered the field as a substitute, was carried off in the final minutes of the game following the injury.

After a thorough evaluation, the decision was made to withdraw Adu Kwabena from the squad, paving the way for Thomas-Asante’s return. His absence from the original selection was notable, especially considering his contribution to Ghana during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he played a key role in the team’s 1-0 win against Panama.
Additionally, Thomas-Asante’s comeback follows Mohammed Kudus’s withdrawal, as the Tottenham forward has opted to stay with his club to focus on his recovery and work on regaining full fitness after an extended period out due to injury.
Looking ahead, Ghana is scheduled to face Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké on September 24, will host The Gambia in Accra on September 29, and then make a trip to Morocco for a friendly match on October 4, 2026.
