Godwin Attram Joins Black Stars Technical Team as Assistant Coach
The Ghana Football Association has announced the appointment of former Ghana international Godwin Attram as Assistant Coach of the Black Stars, replacing Desmond Ofei.
In a statement released on Monday, September 21, the GFA confirmed that Attram joins the Black Stars technical team as part of an ongoing technical restructuring.

He takes over from Desmond Ofei, who will now concentrate fully on his role as Head Coach of the Black Meteors, Ghana’s U23 side.

According to the FA, the move is aimed at strengthening the national teams ahead of a busy international calendar, including the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Who is Godwin Attram?
For those who watched Ghana football in the late 90s and early 2000s, Attram needs no introduction.
Nicknamed “Platini” for his silky left foot and creative play, he was one of Ghana’s most gifted midfielders. He enjoyed spells in Europe with PSV Eindhoven and Silkeborg IF, before becoming a fan favourite in the Ghana Premier League.

After hanging up his boots, Attram didn’t leave football. He went into coaching and player development:
• Head Coach of Accra Great Olympics
• Co-owner and head of Attram De Visser Soccer Academy – one of Ghana’s best youth development projects, which has produced players for the national youth teams and abroad
• Involved with Ghana’s national youth team structures.
He is widely regarded for his modern approach to the game and his eye for nurturing young talent.

Desmond Ofei has been juggling dual roles for a while assisting with the Black Stars while also leading the Black Satellites (U20) and later the Black Meteors (U23).
The GFA says separating the roles will allow for more focused leadership. Ofei will now lead the Black Meteors exclusively as they prepare for the next Olympic Games qualifying campaign.
For the Black Stars, it brings in a former player who understands what it means to wear the jersey, but also understands the modern Ghanaian player coming through the system.
The Black Stars are set to open their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign away to arch-rivals Côte d’Ivoire on September 24, before hosting The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 29. A friendly against Morocco in Tangier has also been lined up.
It will be the first major test for the restructured technical team after Ghana’s participation at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
