“I Don’t Mind Being Insulted” – Mahama Reacts To Arrest Over Insults On Social Media
President John Dramani Mahama has reacted to the recent arrest by police of some individuals on social media over insults directed at him, saying he is not bothered by insults.
Speaking on the issue, President Mahama said he has endured insults, vilification and even electoral defeat in his political journey, and has developed thick skin.
“As a leader, I don’t mind being insulted. I’ve been insulted, I was vilified, I was voted out of office, so for me, this skin is a crocodile skin, so if you insult me, I don’t mind. And indeed, I’m doing what I can for my country and my continent,” he stated.

The President’s comment comes after the Ghana Police Service arrested some persons alleged to have insulted and threatened him on social media platforms including TikTok and Facebook.
The arrests sparked public debate, with some Ghanaians questioning whether criticism of the President should lead to police action, while others argued that threats and abusive language go beyond free speech.
President Mahama, however, appears to be distancing himself from the clampdown, suggesting he is not personally offended by insults directed at him.
The President, who returned to office after winning the December 7, 2024 general elections, has previously said his administration will uphold freedom of expression while ensuring that misinformation and threats are dealt with according to law.
