Kofi Akamani’s Family Recalls His Last Conversation Before Being Shot By His Wife
Kofi Akamani, a Ghanaian lecturer based in the United States, had what turned out to be his last conversation with his family back home on the evening of Friday, September 18, 2026. This call, held during a conference discussion about an upcoming family funeral, was a somber gathering for the Akamani family.
As reported by myjoyonline and shared on GhanaNkomo.com, the family connected over the phone to deliberate on sending a representative to the funeral in Biu, located near Navrongo in the Upper East Region. Four family members were actively engaged in the conversation, while others listened quietly. Kofi joined the discussion from the US, contributing to the plans as they unfolded.
As the call came to an end, Kofi bid his family farewell and extended his wishes for a safe journey to those who would be traveling. At that moment, no one realized they were experiencing what would be one of their last exchanges with him.

According to the report, one of Kofi’s sisters sensed something different about him during that call. Known for his loud and expressive nature, Kofi seemed uncharacteristically subdued, leaving a lingering sense of unease among his loved ones.
His speech and responses were also slower than they normally were.
The change was noticeable but there was nothing to suggest to the family that it would be their last evening speaking with him.
The following day, Saturday, 19 September, Kofi was shot in the United States and later pronounced dead. He was 48.
Following an investigation into the incident, JCSO said Akamani’s wife, 35-year-old Betty Akamani, was arrested in connection with the shooting and faces multiple charges over her alleged involvement.
