Carlos Queiroz And GFA Mutually Agree To Terminate Black Stars Contract
The Ghana Football Association and Carlos Queiroz have mutually agreed to terminate his contract as head coach of the Black Stars.
In an official statement released by the GFA, both parties confirmed that the decision was taken after discussions held in a spirit of mutual respect.
“Following discussions held in a spirit of mutual respect, the Ghana Football Association and I have mutually agreed to terminate the Service Agreement governing my role as Head Coach of the Ghana Senior National Team,” Queiroz said in his statement.

The Portuguese tactician’s second spell in charge of Ghana has come to an abrupt end following a disastrous start to the 2027 AFCON qualifiers. Ghana suffered back-to-back defeats under Queiroz, losing 2-0 to Cote d’Ivoire before throwing away a 2-0 lead to lose 4-2 to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Queiroz, 73, was initially appointed in April 2026 on a four-month deal after the dismissal of Otto Addo, with the mandate to lead Ghana to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He exceeded expectations by guiding the Black Stars out of Group L containing England, Croatia and Panama and into the Round of 32, where Ghana lost 1-0 to Colombia.
That performance earned him a new mandate to lead the team into the 2027 AFCON qualifiers after outstanding salary issues were resolved by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation. However, the poor start to the campaign has forced both sides to part ways.
In his farewell message, Queiroz thanked the GFA, his technical staff, the players and the Ghanaian people.
“It has been an honour to serve Ghana and the Black Stars. I came to Ghana determined to help build a stronger future for the Black Stars and support the development of the country’s talent. Despite our commitment and efforts, the necessary conditions were not fully established, and our recent performance added to the decision to bring this journey to an end,” he stated.
He added: “Above all, I pay tribute to the players of the Black Stars. Believe in these players. Protect them. Support them. The talent and potential are there.”
