Five individuals have been apprehended, while another was fatally shot during a series of focused operations aimed at dismantling armed robbery gangs responsible for targeting gold shops, mining areas, and local communities.

These police operations took place between August and September 12 and led to the recovery of three AK-47 assault rifles, 357 rounds of ammunition, five magazines, two makeshift pistols, five BB cartridges, two vehicles, cutlasses, and a metal bar.

During a press conference, Inspector General of Police, COP Christian Tetteh, reported that one suspect was killed in a shootout with officers during the operations.

He revealed that members of the network are connected to earlier violent robberies at Akokoamong, near Offinso, and were already standing trial at the Bekwai Circuit Court over the robbery of a gold buyer at Offinso Abofour in July 2025.

‘They were shocked!’ – Watch robbery suspects react as IGP plays alleged robbery videos

Some suspected armed robbers appeared shocked when they saw themselves on video during a press briefing at the National Police Headquarters on September 7, 2026.

The press briefing, led by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, saw several suspects paraded in handcuffs before the media.

During the briefing, the police played video footage allegedly showing some of the suspects participating in robbery operations.

The suspects, who were present as the footage was being played, appeared surprised as they watched themselves on the screens.

The development formed part of the police briefing on major breakthroughs in the fight against armed robbery and other forms of violent crime.

Meanwhile, the IGP has warned armed robbers and other criminals to desist from their activities, assuring the public that the police will continue to pursue and arrest those involved in criminal activities.

He cautioned criminals that they would eventually be apprehended, regardless of their attempts to evade law enforcement.

The police also displayed a number of sophisticated weapons allegedly retrieved from the suspects during their operations for the media to see.

Watch the reactions of the suspected robbery suspects as IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno plays videos allegedly showing them during robbery operations.
