“Laryea Kingston Does Not Have The Heart To Coach The Black Stars” – Mohammed Polo
Ghana football legend Mohammed Polo has launched a scathing attack on Laryea Kingston’s ambition to become the next Black Stars head coach, saying the former winger does not have what it takes to lead the senior national team.
Speaking on GTV Sports, the 1978 AFCON winner did not mince words:
“Laryea Kingston does not have the heart to coach the Black Stars.”

Polo, known as the ‘Dribbling Magician’, questioned Laryea’s temperament and commitment after his controversial exit as Black Starlets coach.

You will recall that in May 2024, Laryea Kingston shockingly resigned as head coach of Ghana’s U-17 team, the Black Starlets, right in the middle of the WAFU Zone B U-17 AFCON in Accra, after failing to qualify for the U-17 AFCON. He announced his decision immediately after Ghana’s semi-final defeat to Burkina Faso, saying he had already decided to leave regardless of the result.
For many Ghanaian legends like Polo, that moment showed he lacked the emotional toughness required for the biggest job in Ghana football.
“Coaching the Black Stars is not about tactics only, it is about heart, it is about handling pressure from 33 million Ghanaians,” Polo implied. “If you can abandon your boys during a tournament, how will you handle the Black Stars when we lose two matches?”
Polo’s comment comes at a time when Laryea Kingston has openly declared interest in the vacant Black Stars job.
