‘Only an Ignorant Person Would Say Soldiers Cannot Build Roads’ – Mahama Hits Back at NPP Communicator
Former President John Dramani Mahama has expressed disapproval of former Ashanti Regional Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Yandoh, regarding his remarks on the Accra-Kumasi Expressway.
In a recent radio discussion, Yandoh criticized the decision to deploy military personnel to clear the route for the expressway.
“Today, Ghana’s soldiers have stopped fighting wars. They (the soldiers) no longer go on missions in Lebanon and other places. Now, Ghana’s soldiers are constructing roads,” he said.
Reacting to this at a ceremony to mark the handing over of the right-of-way for the expressway over the weekend, the President, without mentioning names, jabbed the NPP communicator.

The President asserted that only an ignorant person would say that soldiers cannot be used for the construction of roads.
“I heard one of the radio commentators say, ‘… soldiers are now constructing roads’. I mean he is ignorant. For those of us who were old enough in the PNDC era when Rawlings decided to open up Afram Plains, no civilian contractor could construct Donkorkrom Road.
“It was the Ghana Armed Forces that were asked to go and open up the road to Donkorkrom, and they accomplished the task,” he said.
