Mohammed Kudus withdraws from Black Stars squad ahead of AFCON Qualifiers
Mohammed Kudus has officially withdrawn from Ghana’s squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, even though he was initially part of Carlos Queiroz’s 24-man roster.
As reported by 3Sports, the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has decided to focus on his club commitments while he continues his recovery and aims to regain full match fitness after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury.
This decision has been communicated to both the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and coach Carlos Queiroz.
Kudus recently marked his return to Premier League action after several months away, nursing a serious quad injury. He made an impactful appearance in Tottenham’s 3-2 defeat against Aston Villa on September 19, 2026, coming off the bench at half-time and providing an assist for Conor Gallagher’s goal late in the match.

His comeback was also highlighted by his first start since January during Tottenham’s Carabao Cup fixture against Liverpool.
Unfortunately, his extended absence from the pitch meant he missed out on representing Ghana in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Following his return to competitive football, the 26-year-old was included in Queiroz’s latest squad. Kudus last played for the Black Stars in October 2025, where he scored the only goal in a 1-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Comoros in Accra.
Ghana is set to face Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké on September 24, before hosting The Gambia in Accra on September 29, 2026, and they will also compete against Morocco in an international friendly on October 4, 2026.
