The National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) has announced the passing of Edward Anato, a brilliant Quarter-finalist of #NSMQ2026 from Presbyterian Senior High School, Bompata.

In a heartbreaking post shared on their official page, the NSMQ wrote:

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Anato, a brilliant Quarter-finalist of #NSMQ2026 from Presbyterian SHS, Bompata. His curiosity, courage, and quiet brilliance lit up the stage and our hearts. May his soul rest in perfect peace. 🕊️”

Edward was one of the faces of Presby SHS, Bompata’s incredible run in this year’s competition.

Bompata was one of the surprise packages of NSMQ 2026. The school fought its way from the preliminaries to dethrone seeded schools like OLAG to book a historic quarter-final spot. In the quarter-finals, they faced giants PRESEC-Legon and defending champions Mfantsipim School in a tough contest at UCC.

Though they exited the competition at that stage, Edward and his teammates won the hearts of many Ghanaians for their courage, calmness and intelligence on the big stage.

His sudden passing has left many students, old students, and NSMQ lovers in shock. Tributes are already pouring in on social media, with many describing him as a quiet genius who had a bright future ahead of him.
