GFA & Sports Ministry Name Five-Man Committee To Search For Next Black Stars Coach
The Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have officially constituted a five-member committee to lead the search for Ghana’s next Black Stars head coach.
The decision comes following the dismissal of the previous technical team after the Black Stars’ poor run that saw them fail to qualify for the 2025 AFCON, exit the 2026 World Cup in the Round of 32, and suffer back-to-back defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.

The committee tasked with headhunting the next coach is as follows:
• Fred Pappoe – Chairman
• Anthony Baffoe – Member
• Stephen Appiah – Member
• Faisal Chibsah – Member
• Agbesi Dzakpasu, Esq. – Member

Fred Pappoe, a former GFA Vice President, will chair the committee. He brings vast experience in football administration. He is joined by former Black Stars defender and former CAF Deputy General Secretary Anthony Baffoe, and ex-Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, who captained Ghana to its first World Cup in 2006.
Faisal Chibsah and legal practitioner Agbesi Dzakpasu complete the team, bringing expertise in football management and legal/administrative matters.
According to the GFA and Sports Ministry, the committee has been mandated to assess, interview and recommend a suitable candidate for the vacant Black Stars head coaching role. Their report is expected to be submitted by Friday, 9 October 2026.
The move signals a collaborative approach between government and the FA after Sports Minister Kofi Adams insisted that government cannot dissolve the GFA but can work with it to reform.
