“No Camp Base, Same Stadium For Training And Matches” – Why Carlos Queiroz Left Black Stars, According To GFA
Ghana Football Association Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has revealed the real reasons behind Carlos Queiroz’s abrupt departure as Black Stars coach, and it has little to do with results.
Speaking on Kessben FM, Asante Twum said the 73-year-old Portuguese tactician was shocked by Ghana’s lack of football infrastructure.
“One of the reasons Carlos Queiroz left his role is the lack of infrastructure in the country,” he said.

According to him, Queiroz could not believe that the Black Stars do not have a dedicated camp base where the team trains.
“He was surprised that the Black Stars do not have a camp base and that the same stadium is used for both training and matches. He complained that he had never seen before that a national team does not have a camp base.”

Queiroz was particularly unhappy that the team was forced to train daily at the Accra Sports Stadium – the same venue used for competitive matches. Asante Twum said Queiroz believes this affects the team and the quality of the pitch, but Ghana currently has only one CAF-approved stadium.
“He believes this affects the team and the quality of the pitch. We currently have only one approved stadium.”

The revelations come after the GFA confirmed on October 1 that it had mutually parted ways with Queiroz following Ghana’s disastrous start to the 2027 AFCON qualifiers; a 2-0 defeat to Ivory Coast in Bouake and a 4-2 home loss to The Gambia in Accra after throwing away a 2-0 lead.

Reports suggest Queiroz actually resigned on September 30, a day after the Gambia defeat, citing several frustrations including late provision of his flight ticket, which saw him arrive just two days before camp instead of 10, accommodation issues, and training arrangements.
In his farewell statement, Queiroz himself hinted at this, saying: “Despite our commitment and efforts, the necessary conditions were not fully established, and our recent performance added to the decision to bring this journey to an end.”
His second spell lasted less than a month after he was reappointed on September 2, following his stint that took Ghana to the Round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup.
