Laryea Kingston Has Confirmed His Interest In Coaching The Black Stars.
Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has confirmed his interest in taking charge of the Black Stars following the departure of Carlos Queiroz.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed on October 1 that it had mutually parted ways with the 73-year-old Portuguese coach after Ghana’s poor start to the 2027 AFCON qualifiers – back-to-back defeats to Ivory Coast and The Gambia. The GFA has since set up a five-member committee to search for his successor.

Speaking on World Cup Daily on Joy Prime TV, Kingston, who currently coaches Uganda’s U-17 national team, said it would be an honour to serve his country and he is ready if the GFA calls.
“I have a job now, and I am happy with my job for now. I’m a Ghanaian, and I would love to hear that call from the FA to come and coach the team. There is no better joy than helping your country. Of course, I will accept and do it easy. I know the level at which I am now,” he said.
The former Black Stars winger, who played over 40 matches for Ghana between 2002 and 2010, last worked with a Ghanaian national team three years ago as head coach of the Black Starlets before resigning after the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship. He has since gained experience at Right to Dream Academy, FC Nordsjaelland youth and now with Uganda’s junior national teams, and holds a UEFA B coaching license.

Kingston also used the opportunity to call for a change in mindset at the GFA, urging the association to adopt a long-term rebuilding project instead of demanding instant success.
“Now, we need to look at the long-term projects, at least five years. We shouldn’t think about getting the coach to come in, and then he has to win something now. We have to be patient and have a five-year project,” he said.
“The next World Cup is in four years, and even with the upcoming AFCON, we don’t need to think about winning it now. We need to be honest; we don’t have a team at the moment, so we need to hire a coach and give him at least five years and use him as a project. The coach should build a team for us, and we should make sure we have a team before there is a competition. We shouldn’t wait until the last minute, and then we call players to come in.”
Kingston becomes one of several local names linked with the vacant Black Stars job as Ghanaians debate whether the next coach should be a local or expatriate.
