NPP MP Agyei Baffour Clashes with EOCO Officer Over Attempted Arrest
On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, Nana Agyei Baffour, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, found himself at the center of a tense confrontation with an officer from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) during an attempted arrest. The incident occurred outside the Accra High Court, where Baffour was present to represent his client, Salomey Awiti Bafoh, a senior nurse involved in the Ghana Jollof public incitement case.
In a dramatic showdown, the EOCO officer stood in front of the MP’s vehicle, insisting that he accompany her to the EOCO office. Clearly agitated, Baffour questioned her authority, demanding to know what identified her as an EOCO officer and citing his representation of Bafoh as the motive behind the attempted arrest.
When asked to step away from his car, the officer refused, leading to a physical altercation as Baffour pushed her aside. The officer responded by asserting that the NPP was needed at EOCO.
A lawyer accompanying the MP intervened, suggesting that if EOCO truly wished to detain Baffour, they should formally notify the Speaker of Parliament, as proper procedures were in place for such actions.
The reasons behind EOCO’s attempt to detain Baffour remain unclear. However, previously, he had made significant claims regarding the presence of a cocaine manufacturing plant in Ghana, asserting that the country is not merely a transit point for drug smuggling but is also experiencing some level of manufacturing activity. In an interview with Citi FM, Baffour stated that his party possesses intelligence supporting these assertions.

Asked whether his party’s claim was “theory or a fact”, Agyei Baffour said, “Fact based on intelligence.”
“There’s some degree, some level of manufacturing in here… it’s a fact based on intelligence… Don’t underestimate the New Patriotic Party as a major political party. People give us information,” he added.
The NPP legislator went on to call on the government to initiate an enquiry into the issues surrounding the smuggling of cocaine through Ghana.
“It is on this basis that an enquiry is very necessary, because if it is established, like we have been informed by way of our intelligence, that indeed there is a manufacturing hub in this country, then it’s a very serious matter.
“If it is also established that indeed there is an importation, it is also equally a very serious matter,” he said.
When asked to disclose the location of the hub, the MP said that he couldn’t do so publicly.
He also refused to state whether the NPP had informed the nation’s security apparatus about its intelligence on the existence of the cocaine manufacturing hub.
