Ohene Kwame Frimpong Bail Applications Rejected in Netherlands

A court in the Netherlands has reportedly thrown out bail applications by the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Ohene Kwame Frimpong (OK Frimpong), who is facing extradition to the United States over allegations that he engaged in romance fraud.

According to the Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament (MP) for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, who provided the latest update on the case, the court first dismissed the substantive bail application of the embattled MP.

He added that an appeal filed by the Asante Akyem North legislator was also rejected by a Dutch court.

“He is still in custody. He’s still in the hands of the Dutch government in Amsterdam. We have done two applications, one substantive, one appeal for his bail, but they all got refused,” he said.
Dafeamekpor has announced that the Ghanaian Parliament is gearing up for the main hearing, where the court will decide on the extradition of OK Frimpong to the United States to face the criminal charges he’s accused of.

The extradition proceedings are set to commence on November 18, 2026.

Frimpong was detained by Dutch authorities at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam in May 2026 after arriving from Ghana. The Parliament confirmed his arrest on May 12 and indicated that they are working with Ghana’s diplomatic mission in The Hague to gather more information regarding the details surrounding his detainment.

His arrest is reportedly tied to an extradition request from the U.S. Frimpong’s lawyer stated that a warrant had been issued by a magistrate court in Illinois at the behest of U.S. authorities. This warrant seeks Frimpong’s extradition for questioning, but it does not include formal criminal charges against him.

Recent reports have connected the inquiry to accusations of fraud, money laundering, and romance scams. However, it’s important to note that these allegations have not yet been proven in court, and Frimpong is considered innocent until proven guilty.
