I’m afraid of becoming a single mother or just a ‘baby mama’ – Sista Afia
- Ghanaian musician Francisca Gawugah Duncan Williams, popularly known as Sista Afia, has shared a deeply personal fear about motherhood that has resonated with many young women online.

In a post shared on her X and Facebook pages, the “Jeje” hitmaker wrote:
“Seeing how many single mothers there are in this generation honestly scares me. I’m not afraid of motherhood, but I’m afraid of becoming a single mother or just a ‘baby mama’ without the love, commitment, and family I always envisioned. I want to build a home, not just have a child. And honestly, that fear scares the hell out of me.”
The post quickly sparked conversations in the comments, with many followers relating to her vulnerability and others sharing their own experiences with love, marriage and parenting in this generation.

Sista Afia, who has been open about her love life in the past, has previously revealed that she has not been in a committed relationship for years. In an interview on the Delay Show, she explained that she had stayed single because of unrequited love.

What makes her latest post even more poignant is her own background. The singer has often spoken about being raised by a single mother who owned several businesses, and who taught her resilience and financial independence from a young age. She has said she started making her own money at age 15 and stopped depending on her mother financially as a teenager.
For many fans, her statement touches on a bigger conversation happening among Ghanaian youth and the pressure to balance personal dreams of love and family with the realities of modern relationships, where single parenthood is increasingly common.
While some netizens have praised her for voicing a fear many women share but rarely say out loud, others have noted that being a single mother does not mean failure, and that many single mothers are building beautiful homes on their own.
Sista Afia has not added further comment to the post, but her message continues to generate discussion about love, commitment, and what it truly means to build a home in today’s world.
